The Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Radovan Višković has met today in Banja Luka with the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH and is the EU Special Representative in BiH, the Ambassador Johann Sattler.
In an open and constructive conversation, upcoming steps in the process of European integration were discussed, after BiH had acquired the status of a candidate for EU membership in December last year.
The Prime Minister Radovan Višković informed the Head of the EU Delegation that the Government of the Republic of Srpska is working intensively on two strategically important projects - the creation of the “social map” and the Sustainable Development Strategy, emphasizing that EU support for this process would be desirable, given that these documents will serve all levels of government, from the local to republic level, as well as institutions.
Speaking about the process of European integration, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Government of the Republic of Srpska is firmly committed to the process of European integration, with strict respect for the coordination mechanism and constitutional competences.
The Prime Minister conveyed to the Ambassador Sattler that he expected the formation of a new government of the Federation of BiH, and announced that he will initiate a joint session of the two governments after the establishment of a new executive power in the other entity, in order to initiate discussions on strategic projects of mutual interest.
Also, the fulfillment of BiH’s obligations regarding the fulfillment of 14 priorities from different spheres, which the European Commission had identified in 2019, was discussed at the meeting, and whose fulfillment is soon related to the process of opening negotiations on BiH’s accession to the European Union.
