The President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, met today in Minsk with the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.

The President Dodik emphasized that this was a meeting he had long anticipated in order to express gratitude for the understanding President Lukashenko has shown towards the Serbian people.

“We also discussed economic cooperation. The Republic of Srpska will import various goods, from electric buses produced here, to agricultural machinery and equipment worth $10 million in the near future”, emphasized the President Dodik.

The President pointed out that Western officials imposed personal sanctions on Srpska, while Belarus faced some collective sanctions.

“There is understanding in this regard. Not much explanation is needed. The President Lukashenko is one of the few leaders who is well informed about the details. There is a good intention to understand and assist”, said the President of Srpska.

The President Dodik stated that this was an opportunity to thank President Lukashenko for his support, noting that the state institution “Minsk Scientific and Practical Center for Surgery, Transplantology and Hematology” accepted 21 citizens of Srpska, including three children, and successfully performed transplants for them.

The President reminded that during the bombing of the Serbian people in 1999, Lukashenko, with great personal courage, came to Belgrade to offer support.

“We will never forget that. We want this to be known. The President Lukashenko today is a living legend who can testify about the difficult times endured by Belarusians, Russians, and our Serbian people”, said the President of Srpska.

President Dodik emphasized that this was a conversation among friends and that they would continue their discussions, recalling their previous meeting in 2019 and several subsequent meetings in Moscow and other destinations, which have always been opportunities to discuss bilateral relations.
